In augustus een korte vakantieweek in Normandië doorgebracht bij Navy & Co B&B. Uitstekend accommodatie, fantastische verzorging in een gerestaureerde Normandische hoeve. Eigenaren Chris en Sue zijn zeer gastvrij en maken het je helemaal naar de zin. Chris is oud-commando bij de Britse Royal Marines en is diverse keren uitgezonden naar oorlogsgebieden. Nu heeft hij zich toegelegd op het verzorgen van D-day tours. Hij heeft grote kennis van deze geschiedenis en kan er met zijn achtergrond uitmuntend over vertellen. Zijn kennis van het gebied gaat tot in het kleinste details en een tour met Chris is een ervaring die je niet vergeet. Naast een bezoek naar de bekende locaties met uitgebreide uitleg, kan je met Chris ook tours maken die echt bijzonder zijn. Al jaren speurt hij Normandië af om nieuwe elementen aan zijn gidsverhalen te kunnen toevoegen. Geregeld doet hij historische vondsten. Zo heeft hij onder meer in het Bloody Gulch gebied een serie nog niet eerder opgemerkte foxholes gevonden, waaromheen hij zelf een korte tour ontwikkeld heeft. Samen met zijn verhaal en uitleg ter plekke komt het behoorlijk dicht bij een herbeleving van wat er daar gebeurt is. Een fantastische ervaring. Chris heeft zich aan mij bewezen als een echte topgids voor wie meer ter plekke meer wil weten van de historie van D-day. Een aanrader!

Diane, I couldn't agree more with your high opinion of Chris Emery. I found him by chance online and he led us on a wonderful tour of the Normandy Beaches on September 19th. He met us at the Hotel d'Argouges at 9 a.m. and led us on a fabulous, heartfelt tour of not only the beaches, but the little churches inland that I don't know if most people get the chance to see. I was astounded and touched to see the blood stained pews that are still there. My husband is a Viet Nam/Desert Storm Vet and he and Chris had much to talk about - I did not feel left out, on the contrary - I was thrilled for my husband - I was thrilled for myself. Standing and looking out at the American Cemetery with crosses as far as the eye can see - standing behind the barbed wire at the Pointe De Hoc imagining those brave boys that scaled it when they knew the Germans were waiting for them - it was an incredibly moving experience and I would highly recommend Chris.
